Facility And Organization
The Integrated Microscopy Center (IMC) is a resource facility of the University of Memphis. It provides expertise in the use of microscopy to students, faculty and researchers at the University of Memphis and throughout the immediate area. The IMC houses light microscopes and electron microscopes and ancillary equipment sample preparation. The IMC is accredited by the State of Tennessee and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) to prepare clinical samples for electron microscopy. It is located on the ground floor of the Life Sciences Building. The IMC 14-room suite of specially designed rooms with about 2,900 square feet. The IMC operates on a fee-for-service basis. The IMC reports directly to the Office of the Vice-Provost for Research and Graduate School. The staff of the IMC consists of a Director, a Medical Director a Coordinator and a staff of technicians. The Coordinator is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the IMC. Each staff member is a skilled microscopist with expertise in histology and electron microscopy that can assist users with research, including sample preparation and microscopic observation.
